Women have been gathering in Moon Circles, Red Tents, and similar gatherings since the ancient times to discuss woman-centric topics that enrich their relationships with and understanding of one another in a non-judgmental and sacred environment. In our first Houston-based Goddess talk, we drank Goddess Tea Blend and wine, enjoyed chocolates, and discussed how the moon affects on our mood.
While not everyone immediately sees a connection between moon and our energy, we do know that we are 75% water. We also know that water is affected by the moon — tides. We also know that periods are on 28 day cycles, just like the moon cycle. Coincidence? Perhaps. But I suggest that there’s a bit more to all of that.
In our talk, we realized that we shared similar experiences during certain moon cycles. Here is a bit of information on what I know about the correlation between the moon and our mood. (FYI, I don’t have a PhD in Moon Energy Science — this is info I’ve researched for myself that I enjoyed sharing the say of our talk.)
The Four Moon Phases
Waxing Moon: There is a steady build of energy toward the full moon. Seeds planted in the New Moon are worked on at this time. This is a time to embrace work and yang energy. Bring projects to completion. Capitalize on this big energy by enjoying yang yoga practices like Hot Hatha and Vinyasa Flow.
Associated archetype: The Architect / Warrior Maiden
Full Moon: We are open with energy that radiates outward. All of your hard work comes to fruition. During this 3-day period, notice how willing you are to connect with others. Also, this is a time to observe and express gratitude for the fruits of your labor. Enjoy time with friends and loved ones. Share your heart with those who deserve it because you’re going to be open and ready for anything.
Associated archetype: The Mother
Waning Moon: We naturally want to slow down with the waning of the moon. Turning inward is normal — this is a good time to observe habits and behaviors that we hide in the shadows. Be still and listen. This is also a time for sexual intimacy. Feel this water energy and go with the flow. This is a great time to practice yin yoga styles like Restorative Yoga and Yin Yoga.
Associated archetype: The Enchantress / Wild Woman
New Moon: During this time, the veil is thinner. We’re more sensitive and introspective. You might want to spend time alone… Listen and Be. This is an excellent time to tap into your soul’s wisdom — to listen to what your Big Self is trying to say to you. This is the time to pause and not do. Now is the time to plant the seeds of your new wisdom, and to allow flow instead of pushing. Recommended yoga practices are Slow Flow, Meditation, and Yoga Nidra.
Associated archetype: The Sage / Wise Woman
After our talk, I wanted to find some resources from people who have really delved into this topic. I found an awesome website that discusses the four female archetypes that you might enjoy.
